Mahidol University is recognized as the first institution in Thailand to offer a degree program in Occupational Health and Safety. We have strong foundation with 55 years of experience in education management in this field. Our curriculum as well as teaching and learning approaches have been continuously updated in response to the dynamics in world of work and the advancement of technology.

Not only does our Program provide students the body of knowledge and practical skills that are necessary to transition seamlessly into the workforce upon graduation, but we also make sure that all graduates will have full professional ethics and social skills.

Program Specifications

The current program administration covers 2 editions of curriculum: the curriculum revision 2018 (effective 2018 – 2022) and the curriculum revision 2023 (effective 2023 – 2027). Information presented below is primarily based on the latter curriculum revision. However, comprehensive summary of each curriculum revision are accessible.

Philosophy: The Bachelor of Science program in Occupational Health and Safety focuses on a learning-centered education, outcome-based education and Constructivism. This includes integrating existing knowledge what they have learned so far with the new knowledge to prepare students for practicing in the field of protecting and promoting occupational health, safety, and quality of life.
Distinctive Features: This Program aims to provide graduates with fundamental knowledge of science and technology integrated with specific knowledge on occupational health and safety that can be applied appropriately according to the context of changing situation and the advancement of technology. Teaching and learning approaches also focus on developing professional skills based on experience in the real workplaces, and promoting lifelong learning.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs): Upon completion of the program, the graduates are able to:
PLO1 Demonstrate the role of OH&S with professional morality and ethics in protecting and promoting the health and safety of workers.
PLO2 Execute occupational and work-related hazard identification accurately in accordance with national and international legal regulatory requirements or standards.
PLO3 Evaluate risks in relation to health and safety at work accurately in accordance with the type or context of business establishment.
PLO4 Design measures to manage and control risks in relation to health and safety at work in accordance with national and international legal and regulatory requirements or standards.
PLO5 Apply communication and digital skills to develop and disseminate occupational health and safety practices in accordance with the nature of the work and the targeted groups.
PLO6 Demonstrate cooperative performance with other professionals to achieve objectives of occupational health and safety practices.

  • Employability:
  • Occupational health and safety professionals in the workplaces and serve as "Safety Officer" in accordance with qualifications required under the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Act 2011.
  • Occupational health and safety specialists or technical officers in related government agencies.
  • Self-employed in specialized works such as trainers or other service providers in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Admission to the Program

    Admitted students must successfully completed high school education (Grade 12) or equivalent, and possess all the required qualifications as stipulated in the regulations and announcements of Mahidol University.

    Students are accepted directly to the program through the Thai University Central Admission System (TCAS) comprising 3 rounds:

    • TCAS-1 (Portfolio system) – For students who are qualified with outstanding academic performance. Portfolios as well as award certifications or evidences are required, and a study project must be presented during the interview.
    • TCAS-2 (Quota system) – For students from the provinces with high density of industrial settings, high rates of occupational injuries or encountering with specific safety and health issues. These provinces include Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan, Rayong, Chonburi, etc.
    • TCAS-3 (Admission system) – Applications are opened through the central system administered by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. All qualified individuals are eligible to apply in this round.
